After Stella and Jenna had read all of the pages (which were a lot), Crumble and bunny Clemens joined them and they discussed what to do now. It was certain they had to convince someone (a dwarf) to fix the portal so they could get the great book of counterparts, mix a potion for Clemens and also think of something to do about the Black Raven one day … But they all agreed the portal and getting “normal” Clemens back was most important at the moment.
Crumble had to work as a translator from bunny to human language and wrote down everything Clemens said. It was a hard decision, but the magician made clear it would be best to send anyone but a magician to the dwarves because of the fight between the different races. He didn’t know what exactly it all was about, but usually it was something silly and not really important. Yet, there were a lot of bullheads on both sides who took everything way too serious. This is why he suggested sending Crumble as a neutral friend to solve this task.
Stella was horrified and feared losing her beloved and special cat in this mission, but everybody else told her it would be just fine and he would surely succeed because of all his skills and magic. She had to give in but wasn’t happy about it.
Late that night, Crumble was already sleeping in his basket (and bunny Clemens on a pillow), Stella finally went to sleep. When she just wanted to jump on her bed, she noticed a piece of paper on her pillow:

Crumble took all of the papers he had filled with letters and jumped on the table Jenna and Stella were sitting at. When the two of them realized that the cat had written everything himself, they were deeply impressed but Stella was a little disappointed at the same time. “We could have talked so much already and you never showed me this?”, she said reproachfully. “Friendship doesn’t always need words”, Crumble replied on a new piece of paper.

“So the first thing we need to do is find a way to the Library of Magic now because we need this book”, Crumble concluded. Bunny Clemens nodded. Crumble wondered if there was another way to reach the library, not having to use the portal. Unfortunately, the rabbit didn’t know any other way. “I am not saying there is none but I don’t know about it.” – “Is there someone who can fix the portal?” – “Well, of course!” Crumble was surprised. He had never heard of such people before. If there existed magicians who could fix the door, why was everybody so angry back then and the police didn’t know what to do?
“Then why didn’t they repair the portal right away?” Clemens sighed: “It’s a bit problematic here again, everything seems to be at the moment… Who do you think is responsible for caring about technical things?” Crumble shrugged. “Oh come on! Have you forgotten everything you learned during magic class?!” The bunny almost shouted now and for Stella and Jenna it sounded like little shrieks, still cute though.
Crumble thought about it,”I guess for technical stuff… Dwarves would be perfect, they know a lot about mechanics.” – “Exactly. The Illusion Islands have been built up by all different kinds of races together. Dwarves were responsible for the portal and similar elements. Unfortunately, there has been a fight between some races recently and that is why I suppose they refused to repair the portal …”
Oh no, Crumble thought. Why do all of these complications arrive at the same time?

Crumble’s writing looked like a text from an ancient magic book: old-fashioned, yet beautiful. He had learned reading back when he had been small, everyone in his family had to learn reading (also reading out loud) in perfection, it was an important skill for them to acquire. His parents and teachers had been very strict about this, but it had never been a problem for him since he had always loved reading the old magic books. Mainly because he was busy looking up new crazy little spells or tricks to annoy his brothers or to quickly defend himself when they planned to bully him again. Well, not really bully… But they were quite harsh at times and Crumble didn’t enjoy these fights as much as they did.
There hadn’t been a need to write things down due to the form of his paws (hard to hold a pen or anything), but it was rather easy to learn because he was such an experienced reader and got along well with the letters. Now that he was writing Crumble considered using pen and paper more often; it could be useful to record his heroic deeds while they were on his mind in every little detail!

There was still hope though. For almost all potions there was a counterpart to reverse everything back to normal. Sadly, it wasn’t just as easy as to take the same ingredients in another order or something. If there wasn’t a direct anti-drink or -spell written down somewhere, you would have to look up the counterparts of each ingredient and mix these together. (By the way, these magical drinks usually taste very bad. Even worse for a mix of the counterparts.)
There was the great book of counterparts which could be found… of course, in the Library of Magic! Clemens was happy that the solution was this easy. He hadn’t heard about the incident with the portal yet… Ouch. Crumble told him about this miserable situation. He hesitated telling him what Mira had done (he figured out something must have happened after Stella’s long talk with Mira… and from what Stella had searched for on the internet he certainly knew what the little spirit had done). So he asked in a more general way what could happen if someone ever took a book from there, maybe this could cause the portal to break?
Clemens laughed. “I can understand people might fear something like this to happen, but haven’t we all tried that yet?” Crumble looked at him in surprise. “Books that you take from the library will simply vanish and return to the library as soon as their time is up. It’s a LIBRARY after all. The books will be taken back automatically. You can extend the time when you visit the library again but all books will finally return back ‘home’ where they belong. This doesn’t cause any trouble with the portal.”
Phew, Crumble felt relieved. Even though that made the question even bigger: what DID cause the portal to break?
